Simple Faith-Fueled Morning Routine

Let’s be honest—mornings as a mom are rarely calm. But even in the cereal spills and toddler chaos, there’s a sacred opportunity to anchor your day in God. Over the years, I’ve traded in perfection for presence—and discovered a simple, grace-filled morning rhythm that nourishes my soul before the world starts tugging at me.

Let’s be real: mornings as a mom can feel anything but peaceful. There are diapers to change, spills to clean, and little voices that seem to wake up with an Olympic level of energy. But as chaotic as mornings can be, they’re also sacred.

Over the past few years, I’ve discovered that how I start my day deeply shapes how I show up throughout it. And while I’ve had to let go of a picture-perfect, influencer-style routine (hello, toddlers!), I’ve embraced a faith-fueled rhythm that meets me right where I am—and anchors my soul in God before the world starts tugging at me.

Here’s what my realistic, grace-filled morning routine looks like.

_____

1. Wake Up With a Whisper, Not a Scroll

Time: 6:00 AM (before the kids, most days!)

The very first thing I do isn’t check my phone—it’s whisper a prayer. It’s usually simple, something like:

“Jesus, thank You for this day. Be near. Be with me, around me, and ahead of me.”

Before the demands come rushing in, I want God to be the first voice I hear.

Tip: Put your phone in another room or set a “do not disturb” schedule until after your prayer time.

2. 10 Minutes in the Word (Even if It’s One Verse)

Time: 6:10 AM

Depending on the season, this looks different. Right now, I’m using a verse-a-day app and pairing it with a short devotional (I love New Morning Mercies by Paul Tripp). Sometimes I just sit with one Psalm and ask, “Lord, what do You want to say to me today?”

No pressure to perform—just presence.

Mom Hack: I keep my Bible and journal right next to my coffee maker. While it brews, I read. It’s small, but it adds up.

3. Coffee + Connection

Time: 6:20 AM

This is my quiet coffee with Jesus time. I sip slowly, pray for my family, and sometimes just sit in silence (a rarity in mom life!). This is usually when my kids start stirring.

4. Invite the Chaos Into the Sacred

Time: 6:30 AM – onward

Once the kids are up, I shift—but I don’t disconnect from God. My goal is to carry that peace into the day.

We’ll play worship music during breakfast. I’ll whisper prayers over their little heads as I change diapers or brush teeth. And yes, sometimes I’m correcting behavior while simultaneously quoting Philippians to myself:

“Let your gentleness be evident to all…”

It’s messy. It’s holy. It’s motherhood.

5. My Morning Routine in a Nutshell

Time Activity

6AM wake up + whisper a short prayer

6:10 read 1 verse + journal a though

6:20 Coffee + quiet conversation with God

6:30 kids wake up + carry peace into the chaos

Give Yourself Grace

Mama, your routine doesn’t have to look like mine. The goal isn’t a “perfect morning”—it’s a presence-filled morning. One that reminds you of who you are in Christ before the noise begins.

And some days? My “morning routine” is reading a verse in the bathroom while a toddler knocks on the door. That counts too.
